Many people across the world have their own definition and beliefs of the word individualism. There is nothing selfish to be able to express ones personality and internal emotions. Being an individual alone could value a person’s overall true character. The claim presented would be opposed by many because people like to feel independent and self-reliant. Individualism in today’s society lets people express themselves, and helps create something small into something big. For a long time now individualism has existed since the founding of our country. People like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa parks fought individuality to stop segregation. Today’s society is better because of what a couple of individuals did to make it this way. This could also be supported by this quote, â€Å"And while the law [of competition] may be hard for the individual, it is best for the race, because it ensures the survival of the fittest in every department.† (Carnegie). Individuality was greatly used when defending the right for equality in between the races. Society today has progressed over the centuries due to the bravery of several individualists. People pride themselves in their individuality to make the world better, memorable and unforgettable. Consequently, individualism is the key to making the society better and turn something that could benefit towards others. Many believe that people who think about themselves are self-centered and do not care about the people around them. That is where their wrong. Individualism is not just about one certain person; it is about the whole world. Stated by President Woodrow Wilson, â€Å"America is not anything if it consists of each of us. It is something only if it consists of all of us.† (Wilson). This proclamation overall shows how everyone is their own individual self but as a nation we all stand together.
